Throughout the years, the IMPD has sought a diverse applicant pool. The IMPD will continue its recruiting efforts, focusing on the selection of a workforce which reflects the community it serves. Minorities and women are strongly encouraged to apply.
The funding for these positions is only possible if the flat 2014 DPS/IMPD proposed budget is adopted.

Process “A” applications are being accepted currently and will remain open until 11:59p.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 2013. Process “B” applications will be accepted beginning Wednesday, October 16, and will remain open until filled. Applicants should only apply for either Process “A” of Process “B”, not both.
The next generation of police officers and civilian employees require a unique skill set and the ability to think critically. New police recruits will face many weeks of rigorous training which will prepare them for the challenges of American Policing. The IMPD strives to instill professionalism and to improve the quality of life within its ranks through leadership development and adult based learning. These modern training concepts are just a few of the constructs new police recruits and civilian employees will experience at the IMPD.
IMPD Chief Richard Hite stated, “We have seen the number of officers and civilian employees decline through attrition while our mission has expanded in important areas. We look forward to selecting the very best men and women to become the next generation of IMPD officers and civilian employees.”
Public Safety Director Troy Riggs offered, “We’ve been able to fund these new positions within the framework of our existing budget,” he said, “The addition of new police recruits and civilian employees will strengthen the IMPD and the communities we serve.”
