Torrance PD documentary video on Criminal Realignment is now available on You Tube
Criminal Realignment, following Assembly Bill 109 (AB 109), has resulted in the release of 1000’s of prisoners with more on the way and the reclassification of numerous crimes that before resulted in prison sentences and now result in county jail sentences only. Many of these county jail sentences result in only 10-20% of actual incarceration time because of overcrowding of the county jail system. AB 109 is having a profound impact on the safety of our communities and requiring local law enforcement to change their methods of investigation and enforcement, supervision of the growing parolee/probationer population, and educate the public on the impact of the most profound, recent change in Law Enforcement. As a result, the Torrance Police Department has implemented the “See Something, Say Something” campaign to raise awareness of suspicious/criminal activity and encourage involvement with our Neighborhood Watch Program. An informed, engaged community is a safer community!
