On October 1, 2013 between 9:45 AM and 10:30 AM the San Luis Obispo Police Department received five 911 calls regarding a male (later identified as suspect Andreas Huld) driving recklessly throughout the city, with a small child in the back seat. The original callers stated the driver was driving through parking lots at 50 MPH, coming close to hitting pedestrians, racing through a park squealing tires and bottoming out his vehicle. Additional callers stated he was weaving in and out of traffic, yelling at other drivers on the road and throwing things out of his window.
Officers located the vehicle near Santa Rosa and Walnut St. and attempted a traffic stop. Suspect Huld headed towards downtown San Luis Obispo at a low rate of speed, failing to stop. Suspect Huld eventually turned into Garden Alley where a work truck was stopped, blocking him in the alley. Suspect Huld stopped his vehicle and complied with officers commands until taken into custody. During the investigation it was determined suspect Huld was driving while under the influence of marijuana.
Suspect Huld was arrested for CVC 23152(a) driving under the influence, Felony PC 273(a) child endangerment and CVC 2800(a) evading a police officer. Suspect Huld was booked into County Jail and bail was set at $100,000.
The child was determined to be Huld’s 3 year old son. He was unharmed during the incident and was turned over to a responsible family member. Child Welfare Services was contacted and is reviewing the case.
