Power Outage Updates: Road Closures and Cooling Stations

A major Power Outage occurred this morning at approximately 7a.m. affecting the City of Torrance and surrounding cities. There are still approximately 10,000  residents of Torrance and 20,000 residents in the south bay without power.  Southern California Edison (SCE) is working on the problem and SCE expects to have power restored by 6p.m. tonight.  Please be cautious driving through the city as there are many intersections with the signals on red four way flash.

ROAD CLOSURE

190th St between Van Ness and Crenshaw is completely shut down in both directions due to downed power lines. Expect delays and avoid the area.

COOLING STATIONS

Temperatures in the City of Torrance are expected to reach approximately 80 degrees today.  For those customers that do not have power and need a cooling center we have two cooling stations open today:

The Bartlett Center, located at 1318 Cravens Ave (310-320-5918) is open today until 4p.m.

The Torrance Airport, located at 3301 Airport Drive is open and has water available.

Del Amo Mall and other retail stores are also a good way to stay cool in high temperatures.

Remember to check on family, friends, and neighbors that have been affected by the outage.

Here is a list of other cooling stations in LA County:
