Deputy Jerry Berryhill of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Jesse Alan Chester, 39, of Wildberry Drive in Marion, with one felony count each of breaking and entering a motor vehicle and larceny. He was taken into custody in lieu of a $2,500 bond.
On Sept. 4, John Carver, of Fairway Oil Company in Forest City, reported that, while he was making a delivery at Samir’s on U.S. 70 East in Nebo, someone entered his work truck and removed three cases of cigarettes containing 49 cartons.
Berryhill’s report said witnesses at the scene got a tag number and employees of the store knew the identity of a possible suspect.
The deputy went to a home on Harmony Grove Road and spotted Chester walking in the area carrying a box with cigarettes in it.
The suspect led Berryhill to the 49 cartons, which were returned to Carver.
