A Night in the Tropics 2013

Main Street Group hosts 14th Annual “A NIGHT IN THE TROPICS”

A Night in the Tropics is a Key West style street party with a good-times Caribbean atmosphere, and one of Greater New Port Richey Main Street’s most popular events. It will take place on Friday, August 23rd from 5 p.m. to 11pm in Downtown New Port Richey. The main features are two stages of live music and dance, a classic & customized car cruise-in, vendors selling Latin and American fare, as well as tropical arts and crafts; with commercial items and programs to round out the mix. There is also a Tropical Beer Garden featuring Budweiser products and great musical entertainment.

Main Street is especially delighted to welcome back Jason Webb & the Caribbean Chillers, Central Florida’s # 1 Jimmy Buffet tribute band. They will perform on the main stage, at the south end of the downtown on Grand Boulevard from 7:30 to 10:30pm. This high octane performing band has a strong following among ‘Parrot Heads’ and brings the true fun atmosphere of a Jimmy Buffett show.

Opening for them will be the Gypsy Star Band, an American acoustic rock band whose original music is flavored with sounds and rhythms from around the world. Gypsy Star has released two CDs and are working on a third to be released later in 2013. The band has performed concerts locally and had their first CD release party at the Richey Suncoast Theatre.

The Sunset Corvette Classic & Customized Car Cruise-In will be on Main Street and north on Grand Boulevard, and will feature its own musical accompaniment as Wingate Entertainment & Productions, Inc. spins a great selection of oldies with a tropical twist.

A special feature of the evening will be a performance by Shazadi and Jewels of the Desert, a professional dance troupe based in Hernando County. Dancers in the troupe perform bellydancing, Polynesian dancing, pearl of the orient dance, poi spinning, and Hula Hoop dance.

Local popular food trucks include gourmet seafood, gator and grouper, ‘latin-style’ nachos, chicken gyros, smoked turkey legs, and refreshing lemonade, soft-serve ice cream, root beer floats and smoothies. And what would a Latin-flavored street party be without black beans & rice and authentic Cubans!

And don’t forget that the event is held in the heart of the historic downtown district where you can pop in to any of the restaurants and taverns, all who will be featuring created-for-the-event tropical drinks specials as well as their featured fare.

Another popular feature of A Night in the Tropics will be the Island Hoppers Club, where true partygoers will join an elite group, who can participate in a scavenger hunt, finding clues hidden in various downtown shops. Once completed, they are eligible to enter a drawing for the coveted Treasure Chest, with prizes worth in excess of $300.00. A Night In The Tropics may be “the hottest night in the Summer”, but it is “the coolest party in town”.
