School classes begin tomorrow, Wednesday, August 21. Use caution and reduce speed in school zones.
Please slow down and be alert for the safety of children.
The school speed zone of 20 mph is in effect when children are present on school days from 7:00 AM until 4:00 PM.
Motorists waving for children to cross the road is a dangerous habit. This practice has directly caused two separate accidents involving children being struck by a car. This may appear to be a helpful gesture but the consequences can be deadly.
State of Illinois law mandates that all motorists must stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk.
A person, regardless of age, may not use a wireless telephone at any time while operating a motor vehicle on a roadway in a school speed zone.
Traffic enforcement will be increased in these areas.
