WPD and local organizations will host National Night Out at 5 PM - YMCA Park on Murray Ave and on the corner of Oak Ave

The celebration is designed to increase awareness about police programs in the community, such as drug and gang prevention, neighborhood watch and other anti-crime efforts. Each year, hundreds of residents and dozens of local agencies take part in the event.
Officers from the Community Impact Division and the Gang Unit will be in attendance. It is an opportunity to foster relationships among residents and police. Officers will have activity tables set up for children and will give them a chance to check out police cruisers on display. Officers also will be handing out educational books on safety and offering prizes.

The family friendly event will also feature free music, food and games.

The introduction of National Night Out, “America’s Night Out Against Crime”, began in 1984, to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. National Night Out program culminates annually, on the first Tuesday of August. The event now involves 37 million people and 15,000 communities nationwide.
