July 29, 2013

Theft with Priors - 11450 San Pablo Ave.
At 0852 hours, officers were dispatched to Safeway for a theft that just occurred. An employee reported that a man exited the store with a bottle of vodka without paying for it. Responding officers located the man several blocks away and still in possession of the bottle of vodka. Officers took the witness to the scene of the stop and the witness identified the man as the thief. Officers arrested the man, a 55-year-old El Cerrito resident, and transported him to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Theft with Priors/Battery on a Police Officer/Drunk in Public - 1711 Eastshore Blvd.
At 1115 hours, officers were dispatched to Orchard Supply Hardware for an unwanted woman who might have stolen a lock. Responding officers located the woman walking away from the business. When the woman noticed the officers, she threw away merchandise she had previously concealed. Officers determined that the woman had stolen items from the store. They arrested the woman for theft and put the woman in the back seat of a patrol car. As she sat down, she kicked the door open, striking an officer. The officer did not sustain injuries, however officers added an additional charge of battery on an officer. Officers took the woman, a 50 year old Richmond resident, to county jail in Martinez.

Auto Burglary - IFO 420 El Cerrito Plaza
At 1225 hours, an officer reports that unknown suspect(s) broke the driver’s side rear window to gain entry to the victim’s vehicle and remove property while it was parked for approximately an hour in the parking lot.

Warrant Arrest - 9900 block of San Pablo Ave.
At 1351 hours, officers were dispatched to a suspicious circumstance at a business. Officers contacted subjects at the business and ran a record check on them. Officers discovered one of the involved parties had two outstanding warrants. Officers arrested a 47-year-old Richmond woman and transported her to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Petty Theft - 1000 El Cerrito Plaza
At 1607 hours, officers were dispatched to Lucky regarding a shoplifter in custody. Officers accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 67-year-old Richmond man after learning that he exited the store with stolen merchandise. After booking, the man was cited and released.

Warrant Arrest and Obstructing a Police Officer – San Pablo Avenue and Stockton Avenue
At 2138 hours, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and the driver was unable to provide any form of identification. The officer suspected that the driver provided him with a false name so the officer utilized a portable fingerprint scanner to confirm the driver’s identity. The officer learned that the 17-year-old female from Pittsburg lied about her identity, was a reported runaway, and had a protective custody order. The officer transported the juvenile to ECPD and Child Protective Services responded to take custody of her.

July 30, 2013

Driving Under the Influence – San Pablo Avenue and Central Avenue
At 0245 hours, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the 30-year-old male driver for DUI. The officer booked the man at ECPD and released him with a citation to a sober friend.

Residential Burglary - 6700 Portola Dr.
An officer reports that an unknown suspect(s) entered the victim’s residence through an unlocked window and removed property. The burglary occurred between 1100 hours on July 29 and 0700 hours on July 30.

Stolen Vehicle - 800 block of Liberty St.
An officer reports that an unknown suspect(s) stole the victim’s Honda Accord between 0930 hours on July 28 and 1239 hours on July 30.

Burglary/Forgery - 11100 block of San Pablo Ave.
At 1545 hours, officers were dispatched to a bank regarding a forgery detail. Upon arrival, officers located the involved woman and determined she was attempting to cash a check from the account of a deceased customer. Officers arrested the 47-year-old Pinole woman for burglary and forgery. After booking, the woman was cited and released.

Recovered Occupied Stolen Vehicle – Tehama Avenue and Carlson Boulevard
At 2015 hours, an officer conducted a registration check on a suspiciously parked vehicle, occupied by four people. He learned that the car was reported stolen from Yuba City on July 27. El Cerrito Officers detained the group and arrested the driver, a 26-year-old woman from Sacramento. The investigating officer interviewed the woman at the El Cerrito Police Department and then booked her for possession of a stolen vehicle. The officer transported her to the Martinez Detention Facility after booking. The following day, the District Attorney’s office filed charges against the woman for being in possession of a stolen vehicle.

Residential Burglary – 5600 block of Ludwig Avenue
At 1956 hours, an officer investigated a report of a residential burglary where the suspect kicked open the front door to the residence to gain entry. Once inside, the suspect located small electronic items and jewelry and fled with the stolen items. This burglary occurred sometime during the daytime hours while the resident was away.

Warrant Arrest – 900 block of Clark Place
At 2128 hours, an officer conducted a records check on a subject during an investigation and learned that he was a wanted man. The officer arrested the 25-year-old man and transported him to the El Cerrito Police Department, booked him and then released him with a citation to appear in court in Sonoma County.

July 31, 2013

DUI Collision – 600 block of Seaview Drive
At 0103 hours, officers responded to a report of a non-injury vehicle collision. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a vehicle collided into a parked car, causing significant damage to the front ends of both vehicles. An officer conducted a DUI investigation after the driver exhibited symptoms of intoxication. The officer arrested the 23-year-old Kensington man for DUI and transported him to ECPD for booking. After booking, the officer released the man, with a citation, to a sober friend.

Under 21 Years Driving with BAC ≥ .05 – Carlson Boulevard and San Jose Street
At 0202 hours, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and determined that the 19-year-old male driver had been drinking alcohol prior to driving. The officer conducted field sobriety tests, which resulted in his determination that the driver had a blood alcohol concentration greater than .05%. The officer arrested the man and booked him at the El Cerrito Police Department. After booking, the officer issued him a citation and released him to a sober friend.

Stolen Vehicle Recovery - TRO 7500 block of Schmidt Lane
At 1455 hours, officers responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle in the area. An officer located the truck and discovered it that is was a stolen car from San Francisco.

Warrant Arrest – Central Avenue / Carlson Boulevard
At 2000 hours, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver, a 25-year-old Albany man, for an outstanding warrant issued by the El Cerrito Police Department for possession of a dangerous weapon. The officer booked the man at the El Cerrito Police Department and then transported him to the Martinez Detention Facility.

August 1, 2013

Resisting Arrest – San Pablo Avenue / Conlon Avenue
At 0058 hours, an officer observed a violation and attempted to stop a bicyclist riding on the sidewalk. The bicyclist did not stop. A second officer intercepted the bicyclist and ordered him to stop. The bicyclist ignored the officers’ commands and attempted to evade the officers. Officers removed the bicyclist from his mount and detained him. The man continued to resist the officers and the officers arrested him. Officers booked the 29-year-old man at the El Cerrito Police Department and released him with a citation.

Auto Burglary – Parking Lot of Macaroni Grill, 8000 El Cerrito Plaza
At 1600 hours, an officer discovered that an unknown suspect(s) broke the left rear window of the victim’s vehicle and removed a purse and electronics.
