Advisory

5 Fwy and Related Norwalk / Santa Fe Springs Area Street Closures for August 2, 1013 to February 14, 2014

Intersection Closure
Alondra Boulevard at Freeway Drive

Santa Ana Freeway (I-5) South Corridor Improvement Projects

Santa Fe Springs – Caltrans will fully close the Alondra Boulevard/Freeway Drive intersection, on city streets, beginning Friday, August 2, 2013 at 8 a.m., and continuing through February 14, 2014. The work is part of the Santa Ana Freeway (I-5) HOV Widening and Alondra Boulevard Bridge Project to construct one carpool and one general purpose lane in each direction and reconstruct the Alondra Blvd. Bridge.

An aggressive seven-day work week schedule from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. will begin on August 2 in this work zone for the following construction activities:
• underground utility relocation;
• retaining wall construction;
• expedite the daily movement of construction dirt and materials across the roadway;
• drive piles for reconstruction of the Alondra Blvd. Bridge; and
• construct a temporary northbound I-5 on-ramp at Freeway Dr. This on-ramp is scheduled to open to motorists in mid-October. It will temporarily replace the northbound I-5 on-ramp at Alondra Blvd., that permanently closed in June, until the new ramp is complete.

Additionally, ongoing closures and activities in this area include:
• Alondra Blvd., between Freeway Dr. and Marquardt Ave., is closed until mid/late 2014;
• the northbound I-5 on-ramp at Alondra Blvd. is permanently closed; and
• reconstruction activity for the Alondra Blvd. Bridge.

The intersection closure will minimize the impacts of construction and increase the safety of motorists, pedestrians and work crews. Local commuters are encouraged to use the marked detours on Valley View Ave., Artesia Blvd., and Carmenita Road. Please consider the closures and detours in your commute and allow extra travel time to arrive at your destination.

The $110 million project extends from the North Fork Coyote Creek Bridge to Marquardt Ave. The project will reconstruct overcrossings at Alondra Blvd and North Fork Coyote Creek, and realign and upgrade adjacent frontage roads, including Alondra Blvd. The 57-year-old Alondra Bridge will be reconstructed and widened from a four-lane to a six-lane bridge, with three lanes in each direction, and will also be longer to accommodate a wider Interstate 5. The contractor is C.C. Myers, Inc. of Anaheim, Ca.

The motoring public, residents and businesses are encouraged to sign-up for regular notification on street, lane and ramp closures by calling the toll-free I-5 South Corridor Improvement Projects Hotline (855) 454-6335 or visiting www.I-5info.com
