Burglary Suspects Arrested

On Thursday July 25, 2013 at 3:39 pm South River Police Officers responded to a Borough residence for a report of an attempted burglary. Upon their arrival officers were told by a seventeen year old female complainant two male suspects walked onto her porch and began knocking on the front door and ringing the doorbell. The complainant stated she did not answer the door because she was home alone but recognized one of the suspects as Kevin Dotson of New Brunswick. After ringing the doorbell for a few minutes the other unknown male suspect went around back of the residence while Dotson remained on the front porch. At this time the complainant went to the back of her residence and observed the other unknown suspect opening the rear window of her residence. The complainant stated she began yelling which caused both suspects to flee the scene. The complainant provided officers with a description of Dotson and the other unknown suspect.

A short time later Patrolman Wesley Sanches observed Dotson and another male matching the descriptions provided by the complainant. As Patrolman Sanches drove his patrol vehicle in the direction of Dotson and the second unknown suspect, the unknown suspect abruptly entered an alley and quickly returned onto Obert Street meeting back up with Dotson. Kevin Dotson and the second unknown suspect, identified as Isaiah Carrington, were subsequently taken into custody. During a canvass of the alley entered by Carrington, a back pack bag containing over 100 pieces of jewelry was located in a garbage can.

As a result of the follow-up investigation conducted by South River Police Detective’s Joseph Zyskowski and Peter Roselli it was discovered that the back pack containing the jewelry was stolen from another Borough residence the same day.

Both Kevin Dotson and Isaiah Carrington were each charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit burglary, attempted burglary, burglary, and theft. Both posted bail and were subsequently released pending a court date.
