July 23, 2013

Warrant Arrest - 11500 block San Pablo Ave.
An officer recognized a subject who had an outstanding warrant and arrested him. The officer booked the 48-year-old Richmond man and transported him to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Residential Burglary - 2100 block of Junction Ave.
Officers were dispatched to a residential burglary report. Unknown suspect(s) pried open a small kitchen window to gain entry and removed property.

Residential Burglary - 2100 block of Junction Ave.
While investigating the above burglary, officers discovered unknown suspect(s) entered the victim’s home at a second location using an unlocked window to gain entry. A light ransack of the house was conducted. No property loss was reported.

Driving under the Influence - 1000 block of Everett St.
Officers were dispatched to a residence for a report of a collision involving an intoxicated subject. Upon arrival, officers determined the 41-year-old man from El Cerrito was under the influence of alcohol and had crashed into his house, causing minor damage. Officers arrested the man for driving under the influence and took him to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Possession of a Controlled Substance – 11299 San Pablo Avenue
At 1851 hours, an officer conducted a stop on a bicyclist for a vehicle code violation. The cyclist, a 30-year-old Richmond man, attempted to discard a small Ziploc bag on the ground. The observant officer saw the man throw the bag and recovered it. The bag contained approximately ½ gram of cocaine. The officer arrested the man and booked him at the El Cerrito Police Department. The cocaine will go to the county crime lab for analysis before detectives bring the case to the district attorney’s office for review.

Residential Burglary – 2600 block of Yuba Avenue
At 2130 hours, a resident returned home to find an unknown suspect had pried open the kitchen window to gain access to the home and ransacked the master bedroom. The suspect stole computer equipment, jewelry and credit cards. The period of the burglary was approximately two hours from 1730 hours to 1930 hours.

Driving under the Influence of Alcohol – San Pablo Avenue and Plumas Avenue
At 0141 hours, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver, a 56-year-old Concord man, for DUI. The officer booked the man at the El Cerrito Police Department and released with him with a citation.

July 24, 2013

Stolen Vehicle - 300 block of Pomona Ave.
An officer reports that an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 2011 Subaru sometime during the night.

Elder Financial Abuse - 5800 block of Lassen St.
An officer conducted follow up in regarding a fraud case and obtained video from the bank surveillance cameras where the thief made fraudulent withdrawals. The victim identified the suspected thief, caught on camera, as a family member. Officers contacted the 50-year-old El Cerrito man and arrested him for burglary, fraudulent use of a credit card and financial elder abuse. After booking, an officer took the man to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Petty Theft/Warrant Arrest - 1000 El Cerrito Plaza
An officer responded to Lucky’s for a shoplifter in-custody detail. Loss prevention agents stopped a 35-year-old Richmond man who left the store with stolen merchandise. The officer checked the man for warrants and learned that he also had a warrant for his arrest. The officer arrested the man and took him to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Public Intoxication – San Pablo Avenue / Blake Street
At 1946 hours, a patrol Sergeant driving northbound on San Pablo Avenue noticed a heavily intoxicated man crossing San Pablo Avenue between Potrero Avenue and Blake Street. The 36-year-old Richmond man was nearly struck by multiple vehicles as he stumbled his way across the road. The Sgt. ordered the man to return to the sidewalk however he ignored the command, continued to cross, and was nearly struck by vehicles on the other side of the median. The officer contacted the man behind Chevron and arrested him for public intoxication. Officers transported the man directly to county jail in Martinez.

Trespassing and Possession of Narcotics and Narcotics Paraphernalia – 6500 block of Barrett Avenue
A neighbor called to report that two subjects entered a vacant home where there had been previous problems with squatters. Officers contacted two suspects who had backed their car into the garage and then closed the door to conceal their presence in the home. Officers arrested a 30-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man, both from Richmond, for trespassing. A search of their vehicle uncovered methamphetamine and a methamphetamine-smoking pipe. Officers impounded their vehicle and transported both suspects to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. Afterward, officers released them with a citation.

July 25, 2013

Identity Theft and Possession of Stolen Bank Cards – Safeway, 11450 San Pablo Avenue
At 1700 hours, an officer arrested a 35-year-old woman from Richmond after she attempted to use a fraudulently obtained gift card. The officer located numerous credit cards with different names printed on them, which were likely stolen from victim’s mailboxes. The officer booked the woman at the El Cerrito Police Department and then released her with a citation. The officer will conduct additional follow up and attempt to locate potential victims in this case.

Resisting Arrest – 5800 block of Lassen Street
At 2035 hours, an alert patrol Sergeant noticed a suspicious person knocking on the door of a residence. The resident answered the door and when the subject noticed the sergeant observing him from the patrol SUV he quickly fled on a bicycle down the street. The Sergeant pursued the suspect on the bicycle through Creekside Park and into the east parking lot of the Pacific East Mall. The suspect abandoned the bicycle and ran into the mall through the loading doors. The Sergeant gave chase on foot through the mall and captured the suspect in the west parking lot outside of the mall. The officer learned that the 44-year-old man, a former El Cerrito resident, had a warrant for his arrest for violating the terms of his probation. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
