INCIDENT: DUI investigation of PPD Officer Ryan McGreevy

LOCATION: PETALUMA

SUMMARY: The Petaluma Police Department was notified today by the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office that Petaluma Police Officer Ryan McGreevy’s DUI case has been resolved. Officer McGreevy has plead no contest to an alcohol related reckless driving charge. The prosecution came as the result of an independent investigation performed by the California Highway Patrol, at the request of the Petaluma Police Department. The case originated from a collision on a motor scooter at a Petaluma Police Department sponsored golf tournament in October 2012.

At the conclusion of a separate administrative investigation into Officer McGreevy’s conduct and the events surrounding the allegations that led to his DUI prosecution, the Petaluma Police Department will take the appropriate action in accordance with applicable collective bargaining agreements, the City of Petaluma Personnel Rules and State law as outlined in the Peace Officer Bill of Rights. The outcome of the administrative process is confidential under state law.

The men and women of the Petaluma Police Department take this matter seriously and understand the disappointment expressed by some members of our community over this matter. “Though serious, this isolated event does not diminish the exceptional service to our community that our officers provide to our residents, businesses and visitors on a daily basis,” said Petaluma Police Chief Patrick Williams.
