Montgomery Cooling Centers

The Village of Montgomery wants to remind residents that during a heat wave, the Montgomery Police Department, 10 Civic Center Avenue, is available 24 hours a day as a cooling center. The Village Hall, located at 200 N. River Street, is also available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, the heat index is expected to exceed 100 degrees this week. Residents are urged to take advantage of these cooling centers during times of extreme heat.

Tips on Staying Cool
• Drink plenty of water or juice; Avoid alcohol and caffeine
• Wipe skin with cool water as needed
• Reduce outside activities; Stay inside during the hottest time of day (between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.)
• Wear light-weight and light-colored clothing
• Seek relief from the heat in air-conditioned locations
• Check on older, sick or frail people in your community who may need help responding to the heat. Any resident experiencing the signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke should call 911.
• Watch out for signs of heat exhaustion, which can lead to heat stroke. Symptoms include confusion, nausea, light-headedness, muscle cramps, cool and clammy skin.
• Symptoms of heat stroke include confusion, hallucinations, slurred speech, hot, dry flushed skin, rapid or slowed heartbeat.
• Seek medical help immediately if any of the above symptoms occur.
