“Midnight Foot Pursuit Nets Stolen Vehicle and Drugs”


On Sunday, July 14, 2013 at about 7:06 PM hours, an Anderson Police Officer received a report of a theft of a vehicle from an Anderson resident residing in the 2900 block of Balls Ferry Road.

Information was provided implicating, twenty-three year old resident of Anderson, Daniel Earl SHANKLES was possibly responsible for the theft of the vehicle. Anderson Police Officers began checking the neighborhood of Gardenia Street after a report of SHANKLES causing a disturbance and being in possession of the stolen vehicle. Anderson Police Officers began searching the area for SHANKLES and while in an apartment complex located in the 3200 block of Briarwood Drive, the stolen vehicle was located unoccupied.

Further search of the area of Gardenia Street near Daisy Street, SHANKLES was observed in a driveway of a residence located in the 3200 block of Daisy Street. Upon seeing an officer on foot in the area, SHANKLES fled south climbing numerous fences entering multiple backyards. SHANKLES was pursued. Deputies of the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the search of the area for SHANKLES and he was subsequently arrested in the 3100 block of Briarwood Drive by an Anderson Police Officer.

SHANKLES was found to be in possession of Stolen Property, Heroin, and Methamphetamine.

SHANKLES was booked into Shasta County Jail on the following charges:

Penal Code Section: 1203.2(a) – Probation Violation.
Penal Code Section: 496 – Possession of Stolen Property.
Health & Safety Code Section: 11377(a) – Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Health & Safety Code Section: 11350(a) – Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Additional charges will be filed with the District Attorney’s Office pending further investigation.
