Madison, Wis. - John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that a federal criminal complaint was filed in U.S. District Court in Madison charging Randy Glenn Paulson, 58, of Friendship, Wis., with bank robbery in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2113(a). If convicted, the defendant faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, a 3-year period of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment.
The complaint charges that on July 3, 2013, Paulson took by force, violence, and intimidation money which was in the care, custody, and control of Grand Marsh State Bank, Grand Marsh, Wis. The complaint alleges that Paulson entered the bank armed with a handgun which he pointed at the tellers and announced “this is a robbery.” After obtaining cash from the teller drawers he approached a customer and demanded her car keys. The customer did not respond and a teller volunteered her car keys which Paulson took and left the bank. Paulson was arrested in Illinois on July 11, 2013, on the federal bank robbery charge and is currently in custody.
The charge against Randy Glenn Paulson is a result of an investigation conducted by the Madison Residence Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation, the Villa Park Illinois Police Department, and FBI Chicago. The prosecution of this case has been assigned to Assistant U.S. Attorney Grant C. Johnson.
With Paulson being taken into custody, there is no information that would indicate there is any continued threat of danger to the public related to this incident.
No further information will be released at this time.
