The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce that it has received the “Triple Crown Award” from the National Sheriffs’ Association. The Sheriff’s Office formally received this award at the National Sheriffs’ Association Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina on June 24, 2013.
The “Triple Crown Award” is awarded by the National Sheriffs’ Association which describes the award and how it is attained: “Only by attaining simultaneous accreditation, through the Commission on the Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA); the Commission on Accreditation for Corrections (CAC) of the American Correctional Association (ACA); and the National Commission on Correctional Healthcare (NCCHA) does a Sheriff’s Office receive this most prestigious award.” The award is given to those that have proven excellence and that their policies demonstrate the best practices nationwide throughout all Sheriff’s Offices.
Sheriff Nygren attributes the credit for receiving this award to the fine men and women of the Department and how the Sheriff’s Office provides policing in the community. “The community should be proud of the Sheriff’s Office accomplishments and our pursuit of excellence,” stated Sheriff Nygren. “It is their hard work that helped this Office to receive this very rare award.”
McHenry County is the third Sheriff’s Office in the State of Illinois, joining Cook County and DuPage County Sheriff’s Offices to receive the “Triple Crown Award”. In June, McHenry County became one of 35 Sheriffs’ Offices in the United States to have attained this status. There are 3,080 in the United States.
