OCSO deputy initiates traffic stop; recovers 162lbs of marijuana, 4 arrested. #okcoso

(Oklahoma City) June 24, 2013 an Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office deputy assigned to the Central Oklahoma Metro Interdiction Team (COMIT) noticed a white Ford Excursion with Texas license plates straddle the road lines near I-35 & Hefner Road. The deputy also noticed the front window had a large crack in it.

A traffic stop was initiated and the deputy spoke with the driver, Ismael Maldonado. During their conversation Maldonado provided conflicting information about where he was headed and what he and three other people inside the SUV were doing. The deputy noticed that the SUV's fuel tank appeared to have been tampered with and deployed his K-9 "Axo". The dog responded while walking around the vehicle and "hit" on the vehicle alerting narcotics were inside the SUV.

After a thorough investigation the deputy and other members of COMIT found there were 3 metal boxes inside the fuel tank containing 9 bundles of compressed marijuana weighing 162-pounds. All four people inside the SUV were taken into custody and booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on a complaint of trafficking marijuana. All 4 of the arrested are from El Paso, Texas:

*Ismael Maldonado (d.o.b. 01/21/1992)
*Ismael Ramirez (d.o.b. 08/06/1992)
*Yannet Munoz (d.o.b. 08/17/1993)
*Janet Mejia (d.o.b. 10/28/1993)

"This is a great example of the important work that COMIT does", said Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel. "This joint effort between the Oklahoma County D.A.'s Office, the Oklahoma City Police Department, and the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office is getting drugs off the streets, and helping to make our communities safer."
