Fremont Police Department Officer Involved Shooting Incident

At approximately 6:45 a.m. the Fremont Police Department’s Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call from a female who was asking for help.  The caller stated that her mentally ill adult son was throwing things, turning furniture upside down and had thrown a piece of furniture out a window.  The caller continued to say that the suspect was armed with a knife and was stabbing a door.  Three family members were inside the home at the time of the call.

Officers expedited their response to the home on Ohlones Street.  Upon arrival, officers were able to safely evacuate two family members from the home.  A third elderly family member was unable to exit due to a medical condition.  Officers entered the home and were confronted by the suspect.  Two officers fired their duty weapons striking the suspect.  Officers initiated CPR and Fremont Fire arrived to render medical aid.  Fremont Fire subsequently declared the suspect deceased at the scene.  The suspect is a 53 year old adult male, Fremont resident.

Two family members suffered non-life threatening wounds from the suspect prior to the shooting.

The two involved police officers both have seven years of service with the Fremont Police Department and prior years with other law enforcement agencies.  Per Fremont Police Department policy, both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave.

Fremont Police Detectives are conducting a joint investigation with the Alameda County DA’s Office.

When additional details become available, they will be released at that time.
