Two People Injured in Grant County Crash

Gas City - This evening, at approximately 7:36 p.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and the Grant County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single vehicle crash on I-69 near the 260 mile marker, in which two Fremont, IN, residents were injured.

The preliminary crash investigation by Trooper Weston Shanks revealed that Shannon Davis, 33, Fremont, IN, was driving a 1995 Ford Explorer northbound on I-69 near the 260 mile marker. The Ford blew a left front tire causing the Explorer to careen out of control, and start to roll. The Ford rolled at least three times, ejecting Davis through the sunroof. Daniel Gaiski, 39, Fremont, IN, a passenger in the Ford, was partially ejected through the driver’s side window. The Ford came to rest in the median after it was stopped by the median cable barriers.

Samaritan Helicopter flew both Davis and Gaiski from the crash scene to Parkview Hospital in Ft. Wayne. Davis sustained a head injury and a possible broken arm in the crash. Gaiski suffered a head injury and a possible broken leg. They were not wearing a seat belt.

This is an ongoing investigation, but at this time neither the use of alcohol nor narcotics is suspected as having contributed to this crash.

Trooper Shanks was assisted at the crash scene by Trooper Ben Reasons, Trooper Adam York, the Upland Fire Department, Grant County Emergency Management, Marion General Hospital EMS, and Grant County EMS.
