DEPUTY’S OBSERVANT EYE LEADS TO ARREST OF JEWLERY STORE THIEVES

(HOUSTON, TX) – The actions of an observant deputy, and the help of a good Samaritan, led to the arrest of three men who had just robbed a jewelry store in northeast Harris County early this morning.

HCSO Patrol Deputy John Garcia was stopped at a red light at the intersection of the Eastex Freeway and Business FM 1960 when he noticed a vehicle in the far right lane of traffic with three men on board matching the description of the suspects who had just robbed a nearby Zale’s Jewelry Store.

Dep. Garcia got out of his vehicle, approached the suspects, and asked the driver to put the car in ‘park’, which he did. When Dep. Garcia asked the front passenger to show his hands, he refused and attempted to put the car back in driving mode. Fearing for his safety, Dep. Garcia deployed his TASER. A driver parked behind the suspects’ vehicle noticed the deputy struggling and got out of his car to help until backup arrived. The driver happened to be a concealed handgun license carrier.

Once additional police units arrived all three suspects were taken into custody.

Inside the vehicle deputies found a stolen jewelry case with the content still inside.

No one was inside the business, located at 6925 East FM 1960, when the robbery happened.

Arrested and charged were:

Spiller, Marlon DOB 07/09/1983 charged with Burglary of a Building
McCall, Rodney Dwayne DOB 01/07/1959 charged with Theft
Boyd, Kenneth Lee DOB 09/14/1959 charged with Theft

Photos of all three are attached.
