DUI/DL CHECKPOINT RESULTS
1 DUI Arrest – 18 Other Drivers Cited
Petaluma, California – On Friday night, June 7, 2013, between the hours of 6pm and 2am Saturday morning, the Petaluma Police Department conducted two DUI and Driver’s License Checkpoints in the City of Petaluma. The first checkpoint was WB Old Redwood Highway at Redwood Way between 6pm and 9pm. The checkpoint recorded the following activity:
579 vehicles passed through the checkpoint
574 drivers were screened by officers for signs of DUI or license violations
43 drivers were sent into a secondary evaluation area for further investigation
9 drivers were arrested
0 drivers were arrested for DUI
4 drivers were arrested and cited for driving on a suspended license
5 drivers were arrested and cited for driving without a license
3 vehicle was impounded for 30 days
The second checkpoint was EB East Washington Street at Johnson Drive between 10pm and 2am. The checkpoint recorded the following activity:
384 vehicles passed through the checkpoint
328 drivers were screened by officers for signs of DUI or license violations
31 drivers were sent into a secondary evaluation area for further investigation
9 drivers were arrested
1 driver was arrested for DUI
1 drivers were arrested and cited for driving on a suspended license
7 drivers were arrested and cited for driving without a license
0 vehicles were impounded for 30 days
One driver was arrested for DUI at the checkpoint. There were three other hit and run collisions where alcohol is believed to be a factor. As of this writing, two resulted in DUI arrests, and the third collision was being investigated. Additional details regarding the collisions and DUI arrests will be released separately in a subsequent release. Funding for this program has been provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
