Beverly Hills Rotary Club Presents Service Awards to Beverly Hills Police Sergeant and Detective
On Monday, June 3, 2013, the Beverly Hills Rotary Club presented its annual service awards to two members of the Beverly Hills Police Department. This year’s awards went to Sergeant Max Subin and Detective George Elwell.
Sergeant Max Subin received the award for Outstanding Service in the department’s Community Relations Bureau. Sergeant Subin is a tireless, dedicated supervisor of the Beverly Hills Police Department and is always facilitating positive change for the organization. He’s brought innovation to modern policing, using technology to work more efficiently with the community. Sergeant Subin has been relentless in his desire to keep the public informed, utilizing real time social media outlets including Nixle, Facebook, Twitter and Vimeo. Social media was recently utilized in the identification and apprehension of three armed robbery suspects from “Jason of Beverly Hills” at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and the capture of a sexual battery suspect from Pavilion’s market. Sergeant Subin’s efforts also provide the public with information about active police incidents and hazardous road conditions in the city. Social media has become an important part of the success of this organization in partnership with our community. The Beverly Hills Police Department currently has over 3000 followers on Twitter and recently had more than half a million “views” on a crime video on a video sharing website.
Detective George Elwell received the award for Outstanding Investigative skills after a four year investigation into an organized criminal enterprise involving large scale nationwide marijuana distribution. Detective Elwell identified 20 suspects and was able to charge all involved with felonies including Conspiracy, Robbery, Arson, Burglary, Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Attempted Murder. Currently all suspects are in custody awaiting trial. This organization was involved in the operation of multiple retail marijuana dispensaries generating massive profits, repeatedly showing their willingness to use violence and intimidation to expand their operations and dissuade competition. As the lead investigator, Detective Elwell was instrumental in coordinating multi agencies at the federal, county and local levels. His work in this case, put a major dent locally in the illegal activities of marijuana dispensaries.
Congratulations to Sergeant Max Subin and Detective George Elwell for their outstanding work. The Beverly Hills Police Department also thanks the Beverly Hills Rotary Club for recognizing and honoring the hard work of Sergeant Max Subin and Detective George Elwell.
