City Hall will be closed and all non-emergency municipal services will be suspended on Monday, May 27, in observance of the Memorial Day.

Mayor Cory A. Booker and Department of Neighborhood and Recreational Services Director Tharien Karim Arnold announced today that City Hall will be closed and all non-emergency municipal services will be suspended on Monday, May 27, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. There will be no garbage or recycling collection by the Division of Sanitation that day. Police, fire, and other uniformed emergency services will be unaffected.

Garbage collection, that would normally occur on Monday, May 27, will take place on Thursday, May 30. Therefore, residents should not put out their garbage on May 27, as doing so may result in a fine.

There will be no paper recycling on Monday, May 27, bottle recycling will occur on Thursday, May 30. However, paper recycling will not. Residents should refer to the trash/recycling schedule issued by the Department of Neighborhood and Recreational Services.

In addition, all recreation centers will be closed on Monday, May 27, and will re-open on Tuesday, May 28.

The Department of Child and Family Well-Being’s health clinic, inspections, and transportation services for seniors will be closed on Monday, May 27, with no medical appointments being scheduled for that day. The Division of Vital Statistics will also be closed and no birth, death, wedding, or name-change certificates will be issued. Residents will not be able to apply for permits, birth certificates, or marriage licenses, nor pay water or tax bills at City Hall.

The Municipal Court will be closed in observance of the Memorial Day holiday with the exception of the arraignment court, which will be in session so that newly arrested defendants can be seen by a judge. Residents who wish to resolve a warrant, post bail, file a temporary restraining order or file a citizen complaint can do so at any police precinct. In addition, residents can make payments on parking and traffic tickets through the website www.njmcdirect.com. To utilize this website, residents will need their summons number, including the prefix, and the City of Newark’s court code, which is 0714. No other court cases will be held.
