CHEMICAL ENDANGERMENT ARREST
(Etowah County, Alabama) An Etowah County woman has been arrested and charged with chemical endangerment of a child, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.
“Jennifer Leigh Wheat, 33, of Gadsden, was arrested on May 22 and is charged with one count of chemical endangerment of exposing a child to an environment in which controlled substances are ingested, produced or distributed,” states Investigator Bobby Bryant.
Wheat admitted to ingesting cocaine during her pregnancy.
“It is simply unacceptable for an adult to endanger a child’s life with their choice to use drugs,” says Sheriff Entrekin.
Wheat was booked into the Etowah County Detention Center and is being detained on a $10,000 bond.
This is the first chemical endangerment arrest since Sheriff Entrekin stood with District Attorney Jimmie Harp and the director of Etowah County Department of Human Resources at a news conference on Monday, May 20 concerning this issue.
