Death Investigation

On May 19, 2013, a California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer noted a black Toyota Yaris parked along the northbound 101 Freeway at the exit ramps for the north and south bound 405 Freeway. The CHP Officer stopped to investigate and noted two females in the vehicle.
The passenger was not breathing and unresponsive. The driver was in a state of medical distress. The CHP officer requested a Rescue Ambulance to the scene. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver was transported to a local hospital.

The passenger did not appear to have suffered any trauma and detectives believe she may have died as result of an overdose of prescription medication. A number of empty prescribed medicine bottles were located in the vehicle.

The driver may have also ingested medication, but detectives are currently unable to interview her at the hospital. They are awaiting results of toxicological testing.

There is no known motive for the incident at this time.

Detectives are not releasing the names of the involved persons pending notification of family.
