Sheriff’s Department Awarded Grant for Handheld Citation Writers
Modesto, CA – Through a collaborative effort with the Stanislaus County Superior Court, and the Cities of Modesto, Patterson, Hughson, Waterford, Riverbank, Ceres and Newman the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department has been awarded a grant for handheld citation writers and software from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The total amount of the grant is $361,800 and will cover the cost of each handheld citation writer for each law enforcement agency. A total of 48 hand held devices were purchased as part of the grant and given to each participating agency. Each agency received a certain amount of the hand held ticket writers as part of the grant and the breakdown for each agency has been provided.

By switching to an electronic citation program law enforcement agencies will now be able of track areas of concern and redirect their focus on traffic enforcement. The goal of this new program is to reduce the number of traffic collisions within the County and to reduce traffic fatalities.
Traffic officers will now be able to scan a driver’s license and select an applicable violation from their electronic hand-held device. The handheld device will help reduce the amount of time it takes an officer to issue a citation and give them more time to focus on the problem areas in their communities and the county.
