Sharing an Important Advisory Message from Newark PD regarding Suspicious Activity
Advisory: Possible Suspicious Activity
The Newark Police Department sent out an advisory Nixle message this afternoon regarding possible suspicious activity. Due to the proximity of our cities, we felt this was valuable information to share with our residents as well. Please remember to report all suspicious activity to the Fremont Police Department at 790-6800 and select option 3.
On May 16th at approximately 3:30pm a Newark resident who resides on Marguerite Drive reported that a black or Hispanic female had knocked at her door claiming to be a PG&E employee and was asking for access to her backyard to take some measurements for an upcoming gas line project. The subject was escorted by the resident to the backyard. The subject didn’t have a PG&E uniform or vehicle, but did have a plastic PG&E logo card hanging from a lanyard on her neck. Due to recent burglary activity, the resident found this behavior to be suspicious. The victim called PG&E and they were unable to verify that this subject was a legitimate PG&E employee.
PG&E says: If a person claiming to be a PG&E employee has identification and you still feel uncomfortable, call PG&E's customer service line at 1-800-PGE-5000 to verify an appointment and/or PG&E's presence in the community.
Both the Newark and Fremont Police Department asks its residents to be cautious and report suspicious activities.
