Active Shooter Training - Abraxas High School Poway
If you live or work in Poway, be advised of an ACTIVE SHOOTER TRAINING at Abraxas High School, 12450 Glen Oak Road on MONDAY, MAY 20th from 1:45 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. THIS IS ONLY A DRILL.
The drill will involve sounds of gunfire to simulate a situation where a gunman is shooting at people. Two teams of deputies will make their way through the campus with mock firearms, practicing how they would track down a gunman. After neutralizing the threat, deputies will check the classrooms and proceed with evacuation procedures. Firefighters will also respond to take care of teen volunteers posing as wounded students.
The goal is to expose school personnel to law enforcement response procedures so they know what to expect in the chaos of a real shooting scenario. Classroom presentations are designed to assist school personnel with ideas and options should they be confronted with an active shooter.
Classes will not be affected during the exercise because it's an early school day. People who live or work near Abraxas High need not be concerned about the extra presence of law enforcement or fire personnel, as well as the sound of gunfire because IT IS ONLY A DRILL. Flyers have been distributed around the community and there will be road signs in the area informing the public of the training.
