Former High School Teacher in Whittier (LACo.) Arrested for Having Sex with his Student

On Wednesday, May 15, 2013, 34-year old Suspect John Gilbert Orellano of Cypress, was arrested for Unlawful Sexual Intercourse with a Minor.

The former teacher had recently resigned from California High School, 9800 South Mills Avenue, Whittier (unincorporated).

The initial investigation involving illicit text messages from Suspect Orellano to the (now) 17-year old female student victim began approximately one month ago after school officials notified the Norwalk Sheriff's Station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Further investigation by Sheriff's Special Victims Bureau detectives revealed a sexual relationship had also occurred between the two. Apparently, Suspect Orellano and the victim (15-years old at the onset) maintained a friendly relationship for two years while he was a history teacher at the school and she was a student. In January of this year, Suspect Orellano began sending illicit text messages to the victim, and shortly thereafter a sexual relationship was allegedly initiated.

Suspect Orellano was booked at Norwalk Sheriff’s Station and is being held in lieu of $240,000.00 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday, May 17, 2013 in Norwalk Superior Court.

Sheriff’s detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying any other possible victims and/or witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. Nancy Drake, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Bureau at (877) 710-5273 or [email protected].
