Stanislaus County: Peace Officers from throughout the county converged on several locations in an attempt to curb gang violence.

Today, at about 10:00 a.m., over 100 peace officers from local, state,
and federal law enforcement agencies were sent out to contact
approximately 115 identified gang related targets throughout the county.
Peace Officers from the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department, Modesto Police Department, Stanislaus County Probation, Ceres Police Department, Turlock Police Department, Newman Police Department, California Highway Patrol, CVGIT (Central Valley Gang Impact Task Force), ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, and Stanislaus County District Attorney's Office were split into tactical teams and assigned specific areas of the county. Today's operation is the first of several that these agencies have committed to be a part of throughout the summer.

This operation was implemented due to an increase in gang related
violence over the past several years. The County has continued to see an increase in gang related crimes, including homicides, drive-by
shootings, and assaults. Drive-by shootings, specifically between
Norteno and Sureno criminal streets gangs, have spiked recently; with
two Sureno gang members shot and killed in the last month.

As of 4:00 p.m., teams have conducted 43 probation/parole searches, made 11 arrests, and seized two firearms. This operation will continue
throughout the evening and updated information will be sent out at the
conclusion.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers
at (209) 521-4636. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward. Tipsters can also text information to Crime Stoppers by sending a text message to 274637. Just type "TIP704" along with your message.
