Cell Phones, Texting. It's Not Worth It. It's Just That Simple

Chula Vista - Officers from the Chula Vista Police Department conducted a Distracted Driving Operation on Tuesday, May 14th, 2013 between the hours of 3 PM and 7 PM within the City of Chula Vista.

The Distracted Driving Operation was aimed at increasing public awareness, decreasing the number of drivers who drive while talking or texting on their cell phones, as well as insuring drivers have a valid driver's license

During this operation, traffic stops were conducted on 59 vehicles. 44 drivers were cited for talking on their cell phones and 5 drivers were cited for texting. 1 driver cited for being on their cell phone had their vehicle impounded for registration expired over 6 months and another for being unlicensed. 3 citations were written for various other vehicle code violations.

This was considered a successful Distracted Driving Operation. The Chula Vista Police Department is continuing its efforts to keep our community safe by detecting and deterring drivers from talking and texting on their cell phones.

Please remember that talking and texting are not the only distractions while driving. Eating, drinking, use of GPS, MP3 players and other devices, reading maps, books or magazines, grooming, animals and getting too involved with your passengers can distract a driver and can cause collisions.

Funding for this operation was provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
