Fugitive non-compliant registered sex offender captured in Albuquerque, NM.

On 05/14/2013 just after 6:30 pm local time, fugitive non-compliant registered sex offender, 49 year old Brian G. Campbell was located and apprehended in Albuquerque, New Mexico by the US Marshals Service District of New Mexico. Campbell was the subject of a Steuben County Sheriff’s Office investigation into alleged violations of Indiana’s Sex or Violent Offender Registry law. That investigation yielded an arrest warrant charging Campbell with one count of class D felony failure to register as a sex or violent offender.

Campbell subsequently fled the state of Indiana and became a fugitive from justice. Sheriff’s detectives launched a fugitive investigation to locate and apprehend Campbell. The Sheriff’s Office collaborated with the US Marshals Service Northern District of Indiana’s Sex Offender Investigations Coordinator, Senior Inspector William Boothe. Senior Inspector Boothe assisted with the fugitive investigation of Campbell. Through the combined and coordinated efforts of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office and the US Marshals Service, Campbell was able to be located and apprehended in New Mexico after nearly 2 months in hiding.

Campbell was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Bernalillo County Detention Center in New Mexico. The US Marshals Service District of New Mexico is continuing to gather further information regarding a possible violation of the Adam Walsh Act by Campbell. The Adam Walsh Act is the Federal law pertaining to non-compliant registered sex offenders who cross state lines.

Any criminal charge is merely and accusation. The Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
