Public invitation to the Law Enforcement Memorial Service and Wreath Laying Ceremony slated for 3:00 PM Wednesday.
On Wednesday, May 15th, at 3:00 PM, law enforcement officers from around the Texas Panhandle will gather at Llano East Cemetery to honor officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice. This ceremony is part of National Police Week 2013. The Law Enforcement Memorial Service and Wreath Laying Ceremony will be held at the “Field of Honor,” located on the east side of Llano East Cemetery. Entry into this area is on the east side of S. Arthur Street, north of SE 34th Avenue.
Law enforcement officers and the public are invited to attend this approximately 30 minute service.
An honor guard comprised of officers from the Amarillo Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, and both Potter and Randall County Sheriff’s Offices will present the colors. The ceremony will also include a traditional rendition of “Taps,” and bagpipe performance. At past ceremonies, a variety of police, fire, and other first responder agencies from all over the panhandle have been represented by their uniformed personnel in attendance.
We want to remind everyone that this service is not just for law enforcement personnel. We encourage everyone to attend to show support for the men and women who have died in the line of duty.
In 2012, 140 officers died in the line of duty in the United States. So far in 2013, 41 officers have lost their lives while on duty. For further information on line of duty deaths, see the Officer Down Memorial Page at www.ODMP.org.
