SUSPICIOUS ITEM INVESTIGATED BY BOMB SQUAD
Ripon CA: On 05-13-13 at approximately 1344 hours, Ripon officers were dispatched to the Ripon Community Center (334 W. 4th St) regarding a suspicious package. Upon arrival, officers were advised that a city maintenance worker located a suitcase, in a strange position, next to the youth baseball field at the Community Center. The city worker observed a suspicious item inside the suitcase, and he contacted the police.
Out of an abundance of caution, the area was secured, the Manteca Police Department Bomb Squad was contacted, and the Ripon Fire Department was advised. Bomb squad technicians responded to the scene. The suitcase was examined and technicians located and removed the suspicious item in question. Technicians advised Ripon Police personnel that the item was not an explosive device. This case is currently under investigation.
