The Newark Police Department will observe National Police Week from Tuesday, May 14, through Thurs, May 16.

The Newark Police Department will observe National Police Week with its annual display of crime-fighting technology from Tuesday, May 14, through Thursday, May 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, in Washington Park. The display will be at Washington Street and Broad Street.

The Police Department will display their Emergency Services Truck, Crime Stoppers Van, Ballistics Lab and Crime Scene Unit, Segway, Sky Watch Tower, Police Boat, Emergency Rescue Team and equipment, and Bomb Truck. Batman and his Batmobile will also appear at the event. In addition, the Police will provide information on crime prevention, the Police Explorers, Gang Resistance Assistance Education and Training, and Community Emergency Response Team programs.

National Peace Officer Day was created by federal legislation and signed into law by President John F. Kennedy in 1961, and has been observed every year since then as National Police Week, to honor all law enforcement officers on the week of May 15.
