Sightings of black bear in Morris Township.
There have been sightings of black bear roaming through Morris Township over the past two days. This is normal behavior this time of year as the bears are migrating towards the Great Swamp for food. Residents are reminded to secure their garages to avoid any unwanted confrontation with bear. Residents should also know that bears are generally afraid of humans and traverse this area of Morris Township quite frequently. Because of this fact, you do not need to call the police when you see bear. The police should be notified if the bear becomes aggressive towards humans or domestic animals or causes property damage. For more information you can refer to the Morris Township website at www.MorrisTwp.com or the Department of Environmental Protection at http://www.nj.gov/dep/fgw/bearinfo.htm. The attached picture is of one of two bears that was crossing Columbia Rd. this morning.
