On 4-23-13, At 10:07 AM, officers were sent to 3512 Danbury on a suspicious male attempting to gain entry into residences in the neighborhood. At 10:13 and 10:14 AM, additional similar calls were received in the same block. At 10:19 AM, a residential burglar alarm call was received at 3519 Danbury. While offices were responding, Randall County SO and DPS officers who were in the area assisted. A RCSO Deputy observed a male subject wearing a blue toboggan running north in the 3500 block of Danbury/Carlton alley. While officers were responding, additional officers were responding to another residential burglary at 3505 Edgewood where a homeowner caught an unknown male subject inside their residence. The suspect was able to leave the residence before officers arrived. During the investigation on the burglary on Edgewood, officers located a stolen 2004 Mazda Miata in the driveway. The Mazda was stolen in a residential burglary at 5509 Floyd earlier this morning. Police are also investigating another residential burglary that was reported at 6016 Dreyfuss at 9:34 AM this morning where a handgun was stolen.
As officers began to close in on the suspect in the alley between Danbury and Carlton, the suspect went into the backyard at 3510 Carlton and forced entry into the rear of the residence. Officers set up a perimeter and secured the area. The suspect was seen by several officers inside the residence and armed with a handgun of some type. At 11:02 AM after securing the area, SWAT and APD negotiators were called to assist. For several hours, negotiators attempted to make contact with the suspect. SWAT officers deployed tear gas inside the residence in an attempt to force the subject to come outside. Due to the knowledge that the suspect was armed and that additional firearms were inside the residence, officers did not make entry for “officer’s safety”.
At 5:04 PM, the suspect finally exited the house, unarmed, and was taken into custody. Officers searched the house on Carlton and recovered a stolen pistol that was taken in the residential burglary on Dreyfuss. He was taken to the Police Department for questioning. He is only described as a W/M 27 and his name and description of charges will be released when he is booked into jail.
***UPDATE***The suspect has been identified as a Cameron Mitchell Denton W/M 27 of Amarillo. Denton was booked into Randall County on a charge of Burglary of Habitation and Criminal Trespass.
