Crime Alert and Community Update Bulletin 05-07-13

Notable Cases

On Wednesday, 05-01-13 at approximately 1:00 PM, officers were dispatched to the Wells Fargo Bank inside of the Safeway at the Westlake Shopping Center on the report of a fraud. The bank manager reported that she saw some unusual financial transactions on the victim’s account. The victim is a double amputee who uses a motorized wheel chair. Since February 2012, the victim had a licensed care giver who would come by her house three times a day. The victim’s caregiver, a 44 year old San Francisco resident, started using the victim’s ATM card to take money from her account. This case was investigated by detectives, and the suspect was arrested for charges of elder abuse, fraudulent use of an access card, identity theft, second degree burglary, first degree burglary and grand theft. Kudos to the sharp bank manager who took the time to go through the transactions with the victim and obtain photographs of the person who conducted each transaction and notified the Police Department!

On Thursday, 05-02-13 Officer Lucas Taylor was on patrol and attempted to stop a motorcycle for a traffic violation. The driver did not yield to the officer, and a pursuit entailed. The driver had a female passenger on the motorcycle. At one point, the motorcycle went down, and the passenger ran away. The driver tried to get back on the motorcycle when Officer Taylor yelled at him, threatening to send his K-9 after him. The driver, a 46 year old Daly City resident, was arrested for reckless evading a police officer, possession of a switchblade, and driving with a suspended license. He complained of back pains and was transported to San Francisco General Hospital for treatment.

On Friday, 05-03-13, Officer Jaime Bermudez and Officer Don McCarthy were on patrol in the Mission Hills area due to the increased number of vehicle thefts in the area. They observed a man carrying a backpack wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt walking on Oakridge Drive. The officers asked the subject why he was in the area, and his answers were suspicious and didn’t make sense. The suspect, a 37 year old San Bruno resident, was eventually arrested for possession of a controlled substance, destroying evidence of the controlled substance by swallowing it, resisting and obstructing a peace officer and committing a felony while out on bail.

On Sunday, 05-05-13 at approximately 12:05 AM, Officer Shane Hart was conducting a foot patrol in the Marchbanks Park area when he saw two male adults riding bikes in the area. Neither of the bicycles had the adequate and required lighting on their bicycles, and Officer Hart informed them of them of this violation. While speaking with one of the subjects, Officer Hart noticed the subject was extremely nervous and making jerky movements. The officer asked him if he could search him for anything illegal, and the subject consented. Officer Hart found a significant amount of methamphetamine and a glass pipe in his possession. The subject, a 32 year old Daly City resident, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance for sales and possession of controlled substance paraphernalia and was taken to the San Mateo County Jail.
