CrimeReports.com – Ability to View Calls for Service in your Neighborhood and Anonymously Report Crimes
The Menlo Park Police Department launched CrimeReports.com in June 2011. CrimeReports.com is an online mapping and analysis service provided by Public Engines, Inc. CrimeReports combines the value of police data with the ease-of-use of Google-based mapping and an analytics module so that members of the public can view police data in a high-impact map or summary descriptive format. Members of the public may also sign up to receive free email alerts based on user-defined parameters (e.g., geography, crime types, frequency, etc.).
A new feature to CrimeReports.com is the anonymous reporting of crimes. If you hover over an incident, this feature will allow you to submit an anonymous tip to the Menlo Park Police Department. There is no tracking and each tip is encrypted to protect the source identity.
The public can access the crime map 24 hours a day directly through https://www.crimereports.com/agency/menlopark, through the MPPD website www.menloparkpolice.org, or through the CrimeReports iPhone/iPadd app, available for free download in the Apple iTunes store. This service even lets local citizens sign up for free customizable email alerts, so you can stay on top of crime in your neighborhood. The alerts are available daily, weekly, or monthly.
We believe that information is a very powerful tool and hope by providing the community this information will help prevent crime in your neighborhoods. CrimeReports.com data is updated automatically once per day and contains the most recent thirty days of data online. Members of the community are encouraged to continue partnering and problem-solving with the Menlo Park Police Department while using CrimeReports.com data toward shared police-community goals.
