Due to a construction incident at Newark Street and Jackson Street related to a new traffic signal being installed by Hudson County, various road closures and detours are in effect: Monroe Street is closed south of Observer Highway, Newark Street is closed east of Monroe Street, and Jersey Avenue is closed north of 18th street in Jersey City. Drivers are urged to avoid Southwest Hoboken and enter or exit via Northern Hoboken, or if necessary, to use Grove Street and Marin Boulevard.
The incident, caused by a contractor saw cutting in the road, resulted in a water main being cut. United Water is on the scene and will be isolating the main in order to conduct repairs. It is possible that neighboring residents will be temporarily without water. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
