(HOUSTON, TX) – Sheriff Adrian Garcia, along with Constable Precinct 3 Ken Jones, announced today the results and expansion of the recently formed Harris County Joint Task Force, a pilot program targeting crime prevention and interdiction in east Harris County.
Since the launch in February 2013, Joint Task Force deputies have taken over 40 felons off the streets of Harris County, conducted over 30 misdemeanor arrests, written more than 100 traffic citations, and issued over 150 traffic warnings.
The task force started with four members from the HCSO (a captain, lieutenant, sergeant, and one deputy) and three members from Constable Precinct 3 (a captain, corporal, and a sergeant). Today, Sheriff Garcia announced the addition of three more deputies to the team- two from the Sheriff’s Office and one from the Constable’s Office, for a total of 10.
Deputies were selected to be part of the task force based on their high productivity, efficiency and familiarity of the area.
Task force deputies conduct proactive patrol, respond to citizen complaints, and conduct special investigations of high crime areas, as well as specific crimes to the area, while freeing up regular patrol deputies to respond to other calls for service.
The combination of manpower from both agencies has improved efficiency and enhanced communication and collaboration.
