Inmate dies from self inflicted wound to His Wrist

On 4/19/2013, North County Detention Facility inmate Neils Conrad, a 55 year-old male and a resident of San Francisco, was transported to Sutter Hospital suffering from a self inflicted wound. At 2217 hrs, Conrad was pronounced deceased by the medical staff at Kaiser Hospital.
On 4/19/2013 at 2125 hrs, inmates alerted correctional deputies that a male inmate that was unconscious in the bathroom. Correctional deputies responded and located Conrad lying on the floor suffering from a self inflicted wound to his wrist. Correctional deputies administered first aid and called Fire and Ambulance to respond. Conrad was transported to the emergency room at Kaiser where he was pronounced deceased at 2217 hrs.
The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office Violent Crimes Unit and the District Attorney's Office responded to the jail to conduct an investigation into this incident. Several inmates told investigators that Conrad had been depressed over family issues and his impending homelessness. At this point in the investigation all indications point to the fact that Conrad's self inflicted wound was the cause of death, however there will be an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Conrad was in custody for a parole and probation violation and had been in custody in Sonoma County four times dating back to 2008.
