Modesto – On Saturday, 04-20-13 at 7:30 PM Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 400 Block of Briggs Avenue in Modesto, CA for several 911 calls of gunfire coming from a residence. When deputies arrived to the residence they found one adult male who had been shot. He was transported to the emergency room for his injuries.
As deputies began to interview witnesses they learned that just before the 911 calls an SUV stopped in front of the residence and an argument began between males in the SUV and people attending a party at the residence. At some point during the argument a male in the SUV and someone at the party exchanged gunfire.
The adult male at the party was shot and deputies put out a BOL for the SUV. A Modesto PD officer located the SUV and stopped it at California Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive. When the officer contacted the occupants he found that one of them had been shot. The victim, an adult male, was transported to the emergency room for his injuries. The occupants in the SUV were detained for questioning.
Detectives have been called out to take over the investigation. They will work throughout the evening processing the crime scene and interviewing witnesses to determine what led up to the shooting. Both victims are expected to survive. Based on the initial investigation deputies believe this shooting is gang related, but are not releasing specific details. It is still too early in the investigation and no arrests have been made.
