SCAM ALERT!!!
Tragedy in Boston Being used as Lure

Individuals wasted no time registering domain names related to the explosions at the Boston Marathon. The domains tug at your heart strings seeking donations for fund raising efforts. Within 4 hours of the bombings, 126 .com & .org domains had been registered and by now the list is sure to be exponentially larger.

In addition to fake domains, malicious actors may also create fake social media accounts with similar intent. Twitter account @BostonMarathon was created shortly after the explosions took place. The account stated it would donate $1.00 for each retweet, and was crafted to closely resemble the legitimate Boston Marathon Twitter account (@BostonMarathon). This account has since been suspended by Twitter; however, the likelihood that similar social media accounts will surface remains high.

Similarly we will see many bogus Facebook pages surface. The National Cybersecurity & Communications Integration Center recommends that you use caution when clicking on links or
interacting with social media accounts that claim to represent the best interests of those involved in this incident.

As always USE CAUTION & COMMON SENSE! If you wish to make a donation in support of the victims of this tragedy, please donate to local offices of official fund raising charities such as the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, Mennonite Disaster Services, local police & fire departments, churches etc.
