Fire Close Call Prompts Detector Reminder

Fire Close Call Prompts Detector Reminder

Maricopa, ARIZ (April 17,2013)

At approximately 5:45pm, the City of Maricopa Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire on the 44000 block of West Cypress Lane. Upon arrival at the residence, crews found no smoke showing from the exterior of the building, but residents indicated smoke was coming from the pantry just off the kitchen.

Crews made entrance into the home and found smoke throughout the structure but no significant heat. Firefighters quickly found the source of the smoke coming from oven mitts stored in the pantry. After removing the mitts from the home, the smoke was cleared with a large fan and home was turned back over to the occupants.

The City of Maricopa Fire Department would like to remind everyone to completely extinguish any and all products of fire or combustion prior to returning items to their place of storage both indoors or outside. The department would also like to remind people to check batteries and functioning of smoke detectors in your home at least twice a year.
