SOUTH COUNTY TELEPHONE FAILURE

On 4-16-13, The City of Gilroy experienced a phone system failure related to hard wired phone lines resulting in residents being unable to call for emergency service from their telephones. The problem is currently being diagnosed by the phone company and it appears the outage is within and outside the city limits of Gilroy. There is currently no time frame as to when these lines will become operational. In the meantime the following is recommended to contact emergency services:

- Call 911 from any cellular phone

- Call 1-408-842-0191 (Gilroy Police)

- Call Santa Clara County Communications at 1-408-683-2681

In the event that emergency services cannot be reached by the above numbers, on-duty personnel are standing by and can be contacted at the following locations:

Gilroy Police are urging that non-emergency matters be placed on hold until the phone lines become operational. As new information becomes available this press release will be updated.
