Traffic Advisory: Lane Closures at the Intersection of South King Street and Ward Avenue to Begin on April 15
A Board of Water Supply (BWS) contractor is scheduled to close two lanes at a time on South King Street at the Ward Avenue intersection beginning Monday, April 15, to replace distribution pipeline and appurtenances. Roadwork will be conducted Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The contractor will be replacing a 12-inch waterline installed in 1963, and an 8-inch waterline installed in 1959.
The lane closures were scheduled to begin on March 25, 2013, but were postponed due to the discovery of another utility line in the proposed path of the new waterline. The work is being conducted as part of the ongoing Water System Improvement Project on Ward Avenue from Kinau Street to Kapiolani Boulevard. This project will improve fire protection, help to reduce the likelihood of water main breaks, and enhance water service to residents and businesses in the area. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the work on South King Street is expected to last approximately three weeks.
Motorists are advised to please try to use alternate routes if possible. Drivers traveling through the construction area are asked to please abide by posted traffic signs and allow for additional travel time.
The BWS encourages the community to visit www.boardofwatersupply.com for weekly project updates and traffic patterns, or call 748-5310 to hear a voice recording with the information.
