On April 3, 2013 at approximately 8:53 pm, Gilroy Police Officers responded to the 7300 Block of Chestnut Street for a report of a shooting. Officers arrived and located two victims suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel administered life-saving efforts to Victim Jesse Emmanuel Silos, 30 year-old resident of Firebaugh, but he succumbed to his wounds a short time after at an area hospital.
The second victim (name withheld), a thirty seven year–old male and Gilroy resident, sustained non-life threatening injuries and is expected to survive.
Gilroy Police Detectives and Investigators with the Anti-Crime Team assumed this case. During the course of their investigation they determined that this incident was motivated by gang affiliation.
As a result of their continuous efforts, Gilroy Police Detectives and Anti-Crime Team Investigators developed probable cause to arrest 21 year-old Gilroy Resident Jose Morales Cortez and a 17 year-old juvenile in connection with this homicide.
The third suspect, Juan Guerra (second photo), is still outstanding and should be considered armed and dangerous. We are seeking assistance from the public with the location of Guerra.
