The Corona Police Department reminds the community that as of January 1, 2013, the California Health and Safety Code 11376.5 states; if any person is seeking medical assistance for a drug overdose in good faith, it is no longer a crime to be under the influence of, or to possess for personal use, a controlled substance or drug paraphernalia.
This new law allows anyone suffering from a drug overdose to seek medical assistance without the fear of prosecution of a drug crime. The law does not apply to the sale of drugs and does not shield people from driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
